What is CBT?
There is a lot of research supporting the effectiveness of CBT. It has been around for many years and has continued to develop. Dr Sarah Woods provides CBT in Morpeth, Northumberland.
CBT works on the assumption that unhelpful and problematic thoughts and patterns of behaviour influence and maintain difficult emotions. For example, it is common to find self-critical thinking with low mood, and avoidance with anxiety.
Your therapist will work with you to identify these thoughts and patterns of behaviour, and to understand how they link together. Your therapist supports you to apply different techniques to try to modify the thinking patterns and behaviours. In CBT you are usually given homework to apply what you have learnt.
Does CBT help?
